Knowledge

CBD... HEMP... CANNABINOIDS... TERPENES... what do these words mean to you?

At this point, what comes to mind? A blank stare?... Maybe a rolling of the eyes?...Genuine Interest?...Fear? It all comes down to experience. Whether you've previously had any positive cannabis experiences, a negative cannabis experience, or no experience with cannabis at all, there is one important thing you must first consider - CBD & Hemp are not the same thing as THC & Marijuana.

Regardless, the most important thing to consider is knowledge before judgement. I think we can all agree that there are no sides when it comes to the value of education. Being able to make an educated decision will benefit everyone involved, so we created this part of our site with a dedication to help you to do exactly that.

Endocannabinoid System

Humans, dogs, cats, all mammals have one. So just what is the ECS?

Endocannabinoid System

First and foremost, cannabinoids are active compounds that are found in both plants and animals. (synthetic cannabinoids also exist. Logic Full Spectrum has never and will never use synthetic cannabinoids in any of our products.)

Endocannabinoids are naturally produced inside the bodies of mammals. They link up with receptors found in the brain and central nervous system. This is why you will see cannabinoid-rich products being sold for humans as well as their pets! As a matter of fact, the way in which we experience many different things in our minds and bodies including hunger, metabolism, pain, sleep, memory, mood, stress, core temperature, inflammation, muscle control, motivation and energy are all impacted by our 'Endocannabinoid System'.

Phytocannabinoids on the other hand naturally occur only in certain plants. Despite popular belief this does not just include marijuana, but other plants too - including cacao, black pepper, hemp, kava, maca, rosemary, black truffles and many more.

Cannabinoids

There has already been well over a hundred phytocannabinoids discovered in nature. In fact, 113+ phytocannabinoids have been isolated from the hemp plant alone!

CBD (cannabidiol) - is a non-psychoactive phytocannabinoid that doesn’t make people feel high, in contrast to the effect felt from medical marijuana due to its THC content. Academic research being done in the USA and elsewhere are currently studying the effects of CBD on a wide range of ailments. This has prompted scientists to refer to CBD as a “promiscuous” compound due to its potential therapeutic benefits brought on by tapping into how we function physiologically and biologically on a deep level. Some clinical studies have shown that CBD has strong anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-convulsant, anti-depressant, anti-psychotic, anti-tumor and neuroprotective qualities. Extensive preclinical research also shows cannabidiol can change gene expression and remove beta-amyloid plaque from brain cells. [cited from projectcbd.org]

CBG (cannabigerol) - this is a relatively scarce phytocannabinoid that has its own unique properties, which has inspired a tremendous increase in research efforts over the past few years. Though there is still a lot of research that needs to be done, growing evidence has indicated that CBG can offer its own important wellness benefits. One potential benefit being the aide in the body’s ability to achieve and maintain homeostasis—something that may otherwise require the use of more potent pharmaceutical drugs.

Δ⁹THC (delta-9 tetrahydrocannabinol) - is the popular phytocannabinoid found in marijuana that is psychoactive (it's what gets you high). THC is also the culprit sought out and detected in drug tests. THC is federally illegal; some exceptions exist however in states where Medical Marijuana and/or Recreational Marijuana laws have been approved. None of our products contain any THC.

CBN (cannabinol) - is yet another unique phytocannabinoid. CBN is comparable to CBD in many ways, however it is molecularly distinctive from it. CBN generally comprises less than 1% of the total cannabinoid content found in phytocannabinoid-rich hemp. It is becoming increasingly popular for its sleep-inducing properties, which can make it an ideal alternative to pharmaceuticals for cases of insomnia. CBN has also been shown to have anti-convulsant and anti-inflammatory in some clinical studies.

CBC (cannabichromene) - this phytocannabinoid doesn’t get as much attention as it should, but CBC's potential benefits are extremely promising and will soon prompt for substantial increases in medical research to be done. CBC is non-intoxicating since it binds poorly to CB1 cannabinoid receptors in the brain, but it does bind with other receptors in the body that are linked to pain perception. While CBC definitely has its own individual benefits, researchers also think it has a world of further potential as it seems to synergistically work with other cannabinoids, a term known as the "Entourage Effect". [cited from leafly.com]

None of the cannabinoids used in our products are derived from marijuana. The cannabinoids used in all of our products are responsibly sourced from phytocannabinoid-rich industrial hemp that is 100% organic, non-GMO, pesticide free and grown in licensed farms registered with the Department of Agriculture and in full federal compliance with the 2018 US Farm Bill.

Terpenes

Ever smell something so good you can taste it? Here's why...

For those who are still new to the Hemp or Cannabis markets, the words 'terpene' or 'terps' or 'sauce' may not all sound too familiar. So what in the world is a terpene?

Fun Fact: You've probably smelled hundreds of them in your life and don't even know it!

Terpenes are the compounds found in all PLANT species that give them each their unique smells and tastes. If you have ever enjoyed stopping to smell the roses, experienced the waking feeling from the scent of fresh citrus, or breathing in the fresh forest air, then you have already enjoyed dozens of different terpenes!

When you think about all of the different scents out there, it's not hard to imagine there are over a few hundred naturally occurring terpenes found in nature.

Common terpenes include:

β-Caryophyllene  (found in...black pepper, cloves, rosemary, etc)

α-Pinene & β-Pinene (found in...you guessed it, pine trees! Also in lime peel, sage, etc)

Limonene (found in...lime, grapefruit, citrus peels, etc)

Myrcene (found in...mangoes, thyme, lemongrass, etc)

Humulene (found in...basil, hops, ginger, etc)

Terpinolene (found in...tea tree, conifers, lilacs, etc)

Linalool (found in...lavender, rosewood, coriander seeds, etc)

All terpenes used in our products are responsibly sourced, lab tested, non cannabis-derived, chemical and solvent-free, organic, non-gmo, vegan, certified Kosher and Halal.

Full Spectrum / Entourage Effect

Here is where it all starts to come together.

'Full Spectrum' products on the market today usually include a combination of multiple phytocannabinoids. 'Broad Spectrum' on the other hand is a brand new term starting to appear on the market; technically it means the same thing, but excluding THC. All Logic Full Spectrum products are free of any THC.

Multiple cannabinoids and terpenes are combined to produce synergistic properties known as the 'Entourage Effect'. This process not only enhances the effects of each individual compound, but increases the overall effectiveness of the combination as a whole!

The best way to put an understanding to the 'Entourage Effect' is like this - you can get more done when you work as a team instead of all alone by yourself. Sounds like something you probably heard from a parent when you were younger right?
